GARDENA (CBSLA) – Firefighters rushed to a casino in Gardena Monday morning after its roof partially collapsed, leaving several people injured.

The collapse occurred before 10:20 a.m. at Larry Flynt’s Lucky Lady Casino located in the 1000 block of Rosecrans Avenue. Aerial footage appeared to show the collapse occurring in the area of two large commercial air conditioners. One woman told CBS2 that when the collapse occurred, people started running frantically to the exits. The collapse also caused a water leak.

Authorities say that a partial roof collapse at a California casino on Monday has resulted in multiple injuries. First responders arrived at Larry Flynt’s Lucky Lady Casino in Gardena after a portion of the roof near the building’s center caved in. Police called the scene an “active incident” and said there were “unknown injuries.

At least 11 people suffered minor injuries, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials told CBS2. Firefighters were providing medical aid at the scene. It’s unclear how many patients were being transported to local hospitals.

“There isn’t any report of any critical injuries, the information that we have so far is that all the patients that are being evaluated are minor,” LACFD Capt. Tony Imbrenda told CBS2 by phone.

Imbrenda said the building was thoroughly searched, everyone was brought out and there was no still believed to be inside.

A customer who was inside at the time told CBS2 that he had visited the casino before and noticed that the roof of the casino had been taped up.

“Currently we don’t have the exact cause of why this happened,” Imbrenda said. “But clearly, as evidenced by the photographs that we’re seeing right now live on television, the area of this collapse was primarily around the area where a couple of large commercial air conditioners are situated on top of that roof.”

Gardena police were also on scene.
